Mid 2020, when the coronavirus was spreading across the country, an editorial published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA); the CDC reviewed the latest science and affirms that cloth face coverings are a critical tool in the fight against COVID-19 that could reduce the spread of the disease, particularly when used universally within communities. There is increasing evidence that cloth face coverings help prevent people who have COVID-19 from spreading the virus to others.
In January of 2021, Dr. Michael Osterholm, an epidemiologist, Regents Professor, and Director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP) at the University of Minnesota, and a member of President Biden’s COVID-19 Advisory Board, was credited to this analogy: ‘Wearing a mask under your nose like ‘screen doors in your submarine’.”
