Steve Kelley is a lecturer at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota. Steve practiced commercial litigation in Minneapolis and served for 4 years in the Minnesota House of Representatives and 10 years in the Minnesota Senate where he worked on technology and energy issues, among other subjects. He joined the Humphrey School as a senior fellow in 2007 in the science, technology, and environmental policy area. In 2019, Governor Tim Walz appointed Steve to be the Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Commerce, Minnesota’s energy agency, where he served until September 2020.
He received his BA from Williams College and his JD from Columbia University. Steve and Sophie live in Hopkins, and enjoy their two children their spouses, and five grandchildren.
